That BIOS revision is quite a jump from what you currently have. Sounds like you've done some homework on it.
Of course you need a 64 bit OS and capable 64 bit processor to enjoy the extra RAM.Īccording to the specs, yours can only take a max of 2 GB of memory, so I am wondering if they did something in your BIOS to limit the memory and processor you can install. I read on the internet that someone installed 8 GB in his so, I went ahead and installed it in mine too. Folks say that is because no 4 GB memory modules were available at the time. My specs stated it could only take a max of 4 GB (2 x 2 GB). The reason I ask is because I have an HP Compaq 6910p with the same chipset (T7300 processor), but I have 8 GB of PC-6400 memory in mine (2 x 4 GB). If you flash the BIOS, will the T8100 then be supported? It should with the Mobile Intel 965 chipset, but I don't know about your particular notebook. You don't want that running or it may think a virus is attacking your BIOS, interrupt the flash, and render your notebook quite useless when you go to restart it.
I recommend if you flash the BIOS you do it in Windows safe mode or uninstall or disable your antivirus.
Here is the support and driver page for your notebook: Windows Vista.
Might as well learn about software since I'm doing this. Also, a "noob" rundown of why the BIOS needs updating and why it doesn't do it automatically would be greatly appreciated.
Miscellaneous: Took the computer apart to clean the fans and twice more to remove the old CPU and then put it back after a black screen popped up on startup after installing the T8100.Īnyway, I'm in need of a BIOS update and I was told this support forum was the way to go.
